My previous bos had a ASUS Eee Slate.

Very impressive tablet, I must say (despite the pricy tag).
Windows users should feel at home while using it.

And regarding Surface, I've never tried it. When I heard about the technology years ago, it looked interesting, but unfortunately not targeted to average end-users.

Hallo TmX,
iirc, the Surface x86 version should cost something like 600-700$, 150
200$ more than the ARM one. it seems to me they are trying to
differentiate ARM/x86 in the same way they differentiated on their
old OSes server/workstation, this time but building their own x86 hardware.

sure, but it seems users-users are no more the main impulse to market and technology, imho;
in fact even developers should feel at ease with it,
by the formula Metro + Desktop + NokiaQt + 32/64bit ( currently Windows 8 too).
their x86 own hardware may be their hidden goal.
Cheers,

I just take a look at the spec:
http://www.microsoft.com/global/surface/en/us/renderingassets/surfacespecsheet.pdf

So they also run Windows 8 Pro. Interesting.
Maybe somewhen I'll replace my iPad with a Surface

if i had the money of microsoft, i would certainly design my own CPU too.

but... if i had the knowledge of INTEL, i would certainly design my own OS and softwares, and give them for free in open source licence, and then, fu*k all theses pseudo os companies (ms, apple).
but i am not intel, i'm not ms and i'm not googapple, and they surelly share the same goal:
be all over the world, and be able to control everybody i just one click.

very expensive for both us and microsoft. Smile
but it is plain now: no proprietary microsoft hardware:
http://www.thedrum.co.uk/news/2012/06/20/acer-founder-brands-microsoft-surface-trojan-horse
and this is the right choice, imho.

because if on one hand what we will concretely see,
presumably in October, the "Shared Windows Core" for
Win8PC/Tablets/Smart (Nokia Lumia), a new "point-and-port" (Tm)
way of developing,

on the other hand, as reported here
http://www.markshuttleworth.com/archives/568
Qt will bridge opensource to mobile and portability on Ubuntu.
and i like this last relevant change on Ubuntu.

the real keystone-event in all cases is about
simplifying development,keeping user-feeling-experience
relatively constant, or "lowering" it to a new standardization.
Cheers,

Quote from article:

"... the chip is consuming very little power so that your smartphone battery can last all day."

Just one day!?... is it a typo?

Interesting article.
I wasn't aware that Microsoft does such cool stuff.

"Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei", the fat years are over, for Jungle-Googly and
Safari-iPpad; my opinion. because i know for myself at least 5
workings methods to let people think on a new Osborn effect of MS upon itself.
granted that i am not a fan of MS, i would like to report that in my town
we can find already sensible countermeasures to all what is happening (i like to say "appearing").
for example, buying now a not so recent notebook (win 7 installed) and giving 14 euro to upgrade from that system to Win 8.
