No I'm just saying there's no point assuming the Universe works in a worse way than our video games if it is indeed a simulation. Surely the "creator" has not been outsmarted by a random "creation".

the prolong in/out for hard disk will certainly shorten its lifespan, or it behaves like human now, you exercise more and you got bigger and stronger muscles? Laughing
That's correct. Windows definitely kills HDDs much faster than Linux.

FWIW I disabled most logging shit and I don't get any disk activity for 30 min if I'm not doing anything or if I'm just using cached stuff in RAM. Windows is notorious not for disk reads but for disk writes. Even Windows XP keeps writing every fucking 3-5 seconds, WTF?

I don't have that on my XP box. I run it very lean though so perhaps that is why. Do you know what it is writing?

Could be indexing or automatic defrag.

There is one reason: The 50+ y.o. is loaded and the poor parents of the 9 y.o. are willing to sell their daughter.

Like it or not, we live in a mad world.

it most probably would be caching all your filenames and send them back to tptb

Disabled both though (and other frivolous services). Heck, I disabled "Indexing" even on Linux, biggest pile of garbage in existence. I am well organized and all my files are organized and it's easy to organize them with must applications like Double Commander or Total Commander. If I have to search I'll use those. I will never understand people who don't use at least one of them, especially those who aren't "casual" with their PCs. I cringe when I see people use Cut/Copy and Paste on files. Rolling Eyes

Unfortunately I don't know how to identify what exactly Windows is doing? I mean without 3rd party applications. I know it has to do with logging of some sort though, since it only happens on the main drive. (it's a small write of a few kB, but constant -- Linux had some logging itself, but I found out exactly what the culprit was by inspecting dmesg after dumping all on-going disk access directly from kernel -- it even shows the sector etc)

Oh and yes I disable file access time obviously like anyone sane (also on Linux).

If there's a portable application that can show me this, I'll use it, but I'm not too keen on "installing" an app. Confused

EDIT: I just realized why yours probably doesn't write that often. Perhaps it detects it runs on a laptop and thus suspends all disk writes to a cache or something so the HDD can park its heads and then power down (and improve battery life). Not unheard of for mobile HDDs and OS.

Since clearly all they care about is stupid battery life instead of prolonging the life of your stuff Rolling Eyes

i think nirsoft openedfilesview is a good candidate to check which files accessed and locked by which process,
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/opened_files_view.html

the website actually got lots of nice tools, one of it is, reading adsl router login id and password, which is very useful when my customer has no idea what is their id and password, Wink

It is more than possible -- as long as we can "convert" the mass of the fuel into energy!

Imagine if we find how to create anti-matter (or energy from matter) or vice-versa and have such efficient fuel. Society will crumble. Terrorists will run amok bombing everything since they can make huge bombs even from cars. Materials will have almost zero value (including Gold and other "safe havens").

Such advanced society can only be ran by AIs or augmented humans I guess without human behavior.

i wish human behaviour could be corrected, adjusted or etc into a rational, logical, common-sense based output, but ~ maybe i just naively hoping too much, Embarassed

i think i read the following from ats forum,
imagine if everyone got a small device that could trigger nuclear bomb, how long you think the earth could survives before someone press the button?

I'm more interested in the supposed North Korean missile thing against the military exercise with SK/US. I hope they keep their word and actually launch them (bonus points if they cause damage, though hopefully nobody gets hurt).

This would give the US a reason to retaliate and invade that shitty regime.

heard they are doing a drill there, and north korea just flush off their dam without notifying south korea, guess one could take that as an act of aggression,

i think it just insane that this huge moon is moving while hanging and blocking the sun light,
