why is money so important ? Is it because in the past it was mainly made out of gold and thus became such a valuable item? or is it because of other reasons?

Share your thoughts please.

Money are important, because they are universal commodity, that can be exchanged for any other goods.
Also, the money are some kind of proof for expended labor, so it is also proof that you have rights to exchange this labor for someone's else labor.
The value of the gold is only in it's permanence that guarantee that your labor will not be deprecated with time. If you spend your money fast enough, this property of the gold is not needed actually.
So, the money have dual nature - "proof" and "stock". This duality is not good, because it allows some contradictions - for example you can gain some money without labor, or you can expend some labor without acquiring any proof (money). Smile

Money is only important if you want to do stuff or have stuff. If you are content not to eat, don't need shelter or protection, eschew clothing, and live in the sea at least 200 miles from any country then you won't need any money at all.

Another way to avoid needing money is to be declared insane. Then in most countries you will get free accommodation, clothing and food. But then you can't choose where you live or who you interact with.

There is a further way you can avoid having to worry about money. Do something that is really successful (like Steve Jobs (or Bill Gates) did). Then you will have so much of the stuff that it becomes meaningless.

Choose which method you prefer. But be careful which you choose, because once you are there you are stuck with it for life.

If you decide not to choose any of these options then you will be forever burdened with having to worry about money.

Well, i can't think of any other way than -tada- Communism.
An ideology that aims at the establishment of a classless, moneyless, revolutionary and stateless socialist society structured upon common ownership of the means of production.

Sounds great, if Jesus Christ was the the general secretary of the communist party.
Otherwize, i have no idea how to eliminate the need for money.

Maybe if everyone on the planet decide simultaneously that they don't need the money.

I read about a 69 year old lady who has not used money for 15 years.

But people are so greedy.

Humans designed money as something that can be exchanged for anything. Money represents your hours of work, it also represents power.

Life would probably be better if there wasn't money. If everybody just shared what they have equally just like the american natives did before they got invaded by the white people from Europe.
But humans are greedy and now the only option is to have money or die.

Even God who humans claim to be above all is also subject to money. If there's no money there are no churches open and nobody knows about his teachings, also no bibles are printed without money.

Hmm. Quite interesting thoughts from all of you. But why money(the present day currency) and not just a mere fruit or something not so rare yet valuable that any person can have or find ?

Do you mean "why doesn't money grow on trees?". Heh, I'll let you think about that one and when you realise how silly the notion is you can post here again and try to reclaim "face". Wink

typedef - the money (or the items used for money) must have some properties that make these items hard to be choosed.
1. This item should not to be easily accessible or creatable by people.
2. It must be robust and not to decay spontaneously.
3. It is good to be light and small in order to be easy to transport.
4. It is good to not have other value than its money function.

So, it could be some fruit if it satisfies the above conditions. Very Happy

human is selfish in a time, but can be very generous in another time.
we need "money" to play this both figures.

because if you give 1k to charity, you look more "generous" compare to you give 1k of smiles to those poor orphan kids or shake your hand 1k times with them or hug 1k each of them. (because everybody know money is hard to grab)

gold is heavy to bring and money (those paper) are easier and now, everything is virtually digital figure, more easier to use & collect.

Very Happy, or did some small crime, maybe a few months inside prison, or once you getting old, sick, tired, then maybe government nursing home is one good choice Smile

maybe yes, maybe no.

i think everybody agree, it is damn hard to play good guy because if you are good, they will start "using" you, take advantage on you, bla bla bla.

you just need to refresh back when the last time your friend borrow some money from you but haven't pay back yet....

idk how the american natives work with "share what they have equally", but it will fails today, there are lots of bad genes inside our +7 billion population today.

Some bad news i'd like to share.
Recently i've been unemployed.
I was working in the insurance part of a large car service unit.
We lost -as it seems now- our money, we already are unpaid for some months.
Things are getting tough here.

Merry Christmas to all.

I hope your economic situation will get better soon. Picnic. You, like many other FASM forumers, have become part of my everyday life (yeah, I perceive it like that despite of the fact I even have no idea how do some of you look like), so I can't imagine there could happen anything wrong to you.
