I was just curious to know about the practical use of Assembly. I know just about nothing about assembly. But i was under the impression that assembly was outdated? Now dont get offended. Embarassed And is most of this just for hobbiest?

Some people like to use Assembly as their primary programmling language "just because".

Other people tend to use high-level languages, and only use asm for optimizing the hot-spots.

I belong to the latter group, but peace be with the former - it's about doing what you think is fun and feel comfortable with. Assembly isn't totally outdated though, especially on x86. While some compilers are pretty good today, there's still a lot of areas where you can outperform compilers, and by quite some degree. Mainly when processing large amounts of data, especially if you can use SIMD coding.
