"Save and restore the files last used" is my favourite. Have you considered replacing "last" with "most recently"? "Last" has many meanings, whereas "most recently" has only one.

In most cases, that is true. But "recently" means relatively recent, which, depending on the time period to which it's relative, can mean anywhere from the last instant to the last week. The use of "most" limits it to the files used "most recently" or "last."
