A lot of programs, have an Icon in the menubar of a Diskette to simbolyze the task.

The new generation of children, that are clicking this Icon... Do they really now what they are clicking on?
Theres been 5-7-8 years since the diskette is almoste not used.... its a lot of time.
I my self, don't have any diskette in my house... many of them where losted through time.

It is matter of visual memory. It is not important what appears on the icon, but it is important that the one knows what it means.

There was (and there are) some attempts these icons to be changed, but without great success.

office 2007 has a disket icon

So the symbol of the diskette still remains, but not the thing itself. It survived through its image.
Actually, i guess its safe to say, the disket still subsits but no longer exist.
