hi,
what are the best combination of technology that we could use for our project?
i was thinking about something like below, but i hope you guys could chip in some more for my new project (hotel reservation system).

linux platform
- hosts mysql database server
- hosts nginx web server
- software coded with php.

clients use browser as their interface to input data
i was thinking like browser send a query eg.
http://localhost?print=001
to print out the receipt from another pc that attached with receipt printer

i couldn't think of other combination technology, perhaps you guys could let me know what actually the industry are using nowadays.

i was thinking bout making intelligent script. Eg.
Update.php, select.php, delete.php, update.php,
So,if you wanna update a form let say,u just need to post it to update.php and it would decide what to update and how and inform you the status.

It is like making all small utils like in linux.. Then let them each perform on their own by using some common standard procedure.

so, to generate auto form by just include form.php then u call what form u want and what tables are associated with it.

Idk, but i think, maybe till now,the web application architecture hasnt really mature and we do need some insight and new ideas on how to actually code a project from ground up.

sleepsleep: I hope you have considered the security aspects of using a common web browser interface. How will you prevent hacking from outside adversaries? Do you intend to make it a closed system not connected to the Internet?

they are all up with internet.
I thoguht something like some php script i put in localhost but different port.
Eg. Those services scripts i put in port 666 that could only be access from local network.
So, the main or welcome script put in normal 80.
Maybe this is not security but at least could prevent some direct attack to the script. And they want the system together with booking online feature.
Idk if i capable to do it, but i know i got u guys for help here. :p

php is good...but i suggest you use php classes rather than having individual files.
also, if you happen to use javascript, make sure atleast you encrypt it and decrypt only when needed.
linux is good for webserving but i'd consider using proprietary OS like XP.

I also suggest real time data processing using AJAX, and again you'd have to encrypt it for security consideration. mysql, yes.
I have seen some php libraries that do graphics (GD is needed), you can find one on sourceforge.net or make your own
