why must i use "match lng,`LNG{display 13,10,'LNG equ ',lng}" instead?

Because in the preprocessor EQU processing is a lower priority than the other stuff like MACRO, STRUC, MATCH, REPT etc.

MATCH makes a special case by doing the EQU replacement before performing the actual matching.
