Currently this message board is not indexed in search engines. By changing it would make all the contents of our post easy to find from the Google search engine, and also people searching for other things would sometimes hit a result from our forums. The questions is, do you think that would be a good thing, or not?

I voted no because I would rather the 'search' function of this board worked.

Are they mutually exclusive? Can't we have both working?

rev, I was hoping to avoid the google crap (and it was a hint for the board's software author...)

Tomasz, will it open up bing/yahoo and others or just google?

If I allow any, then I should allow all of them. I see no reason to give Google a monopoly.

I vote yes because there is so much information here that can be useful to people who doesn't know assembly nor fasm by the way.

However, it could increase the spammers/oftopickers count as well. Sad

YES please. People searching for assembler or programing topics should find FASM and this forum, not just the pages of King Hutch or DGJPP Smile

Note: SPAM will increase then Sad

I didn't get it. Why would be allowing seach engines to index the board "not a good thing" at all?

And do spam bots use search engines to search for easy-to-feed message boards?

no because everybody say yes... Very Happy

and because i dislike the butterfly effect induced by google supremacy. even if i worked for google, i don't want to see this board indexed by this future dictatool.

I think it is a bandwidth issue. Some bots can really swamp the server. Just look at the statistic on the main page about the most number of users ("Most users ever online was 360 ..."). No way have we ever had 360 real users, it was mostly bots.

Casual users decide whether indexing will kill board's server? This poll is needless.

Casual users gauge importance of effort to manage bot board usage. It is Tomasz's limited resources we are concerned with and not the server, imho.

Well, you could look for examples of some who have enabled bots. OSdev is about equal in obscurity, so it's a good candidate. 90% of the time, there are more bots than users.

What is the limiting factor, speed or usage? It would increase usage 10 fold, but I doubt it would cause speed issues.
