Question: Is it correct to say i'm "compiling" a assembly code, or i must say "assembling" the code?

There is no "correct" or wrong. Use what you want, they are both acceptable in current usage.

There is little point in quoting from language usage texts, they go out of date before they are even published. You can't proscribe the usage of language you can only ever hope to describe it. The language just grows on its own by the usage that people make of it. I find that there is no rule, and trying to enforce a rule is futile, people just do what they want regardless.

Thanks.

I was just thinking that if we are using an Assembler so we are assembling... if we are using a Compiler so we are compiling.. Razz

But its ok, no problem to me.

I think Tyler was referring to the fact that FASMW calls it "compile" and not "assemble".

I personally prefer the term 'assemble' since it carries specific meaning; an assembler is a compiler, though, and much of the same stuff a HLL compiler does is done by an assembler as well.

ok, + 1 for assemble on the button instead of compile.
assign to assembler instead of compiler
assembler setup instead of compiler setup

devil's advocate: ...but an assembler is just a compiler for an assembly language Wink
