perhaps customized software.
but imo. those who got contract from goverment can earn really2 good $$, even the software is bullshit and the implementation is bullshit too..

and idk if people is willing to pay (coz otherwise, there would be no pirated software) coz people mindset think it is a CD / DVD, why it cost so much, they don't think bout the cost to output that item, they see it as CD/DVD only. (most people).

in term of category,
maybe point of sales, utilities? virus? maybe.

1. I coded a anti-virus helper tool. Bad selling.

2. I coded utils for computer protections. Better selling.
Here I can 3 differented tools. Every tool have better selling.

3. A program to promote tools. Very bad sellings.

I can code a learn lot of but for one developer only. No network or webtools. I would like make more and expensiver tools over 100 USD. No retail version for supermarkt.

A steady income could be obtained by coding micro's.
I never made a penny coding but this is my best guess...

It's just marketing. No matter what crap is your software, if it is backed up with lots of ads around internet you will sell it. That's it.

Hi,

what programs are some peoples needed but no exists? Thats it, marketing is good, but when there are lot of same programs exists then marketing is not usefull for one developer.

Pretty much every possible program has been made. I can do a search for google on any subject and find some sort of program for it. So, you won't be able to find something that doesn't exist. But you can take a program idea and make it better.

OK if are looking for a program that people need but it doesn't exists:

+ A full 'translator' of windrivers to linux/MenuetOS drivers.

It's the only that i didn't found yet and also the only reason that Microsoft Windows still exists.

Wine and ReactOS are just appendixes of Microsoft and Adobe, they only care about running programs that need license and not the true needing: DRIVERS.

@ass0:
Actually it does exist - http://ertos.nicta.com.au/research/l4.verified/
It took 30 people-years and that's not something for a single developer.

I have always been fond of simulation software, but I tend to look free stuff to test on. To make it good, it needs some research, because the math is all there. Just implementation.

I just read a few days ago about some car simulation "plugin" that you can just inject in your code and make it quickly simulate cars.

So, what you might to is something they say:
"Its SIMPLER than the usual stuff, its CHEAPER than other products on the market and some parts of it are BETTER". Then make an ad of this kind and your selling loads Very Happy If your product matches the hopes of course.

wtf dude!! where is any driver translated?!?!?

It's just YAOS (Yet Another Operating System).

by 'translator' i mean it should takes files like whatever.inf, whatever.sys and generate another file(s) to work in Linux/MenuetOS, that's it.

NDISwrapper does a partial translation (emulation of network drivers), but i want a full approach =D.

Indeed, and small crazy, sometimes funny ideas can won.
As an example, The first virtual Frappe is now available as an application for your iPhone.
Written by 2 Greek programmers, and afaik sold a lot of copies Very Happy

(Greek: φραπές, frapés) is a foam-covered iced coffee drink made from spray-dried instant coffee.
It is very popular in Greece and Cyprus, especially during the summer, but has now spread to other countries.

How about a ring0 firewall/antivirus. One that lets you have basically full control over your computer.

Ring 0? Have fun getting MS's permission for that. Even so, with things like hooks, it doesn't really help anyway.

The game market is mostly hindered by the fact of lots of competition, and you need state of the art equipment (helps if you're ahead of everyone else) and you gotta learn a specific API which will most likely be updated to a new version by the time you complete anything decent. That's why, when it comes to making games, most people out there tell you to simply modify an existing engine like unreal.

IMO, the market is getting a little too hostile. You can always impress your friends (only power users that is), but even they will never see you as a good programmer or even take your advice, let alone use your programs over a more advertised commercial solution. I mean really, why else would anyone bother to use windows when it's got so many problems (aside from the guys who are forced by job, particular program that doesn't run in emu, or by lack of driver support)? With all that bloat, it couldn't possibly be a "real gaming platform." Heck, i have programs that crash windows but don't crash my linux (and my windows is pretty much a virgin with sp2 on it). At the end of the day, you gotta ask yourself who wins over everyone. I'd say most computers have zwinky installed, WoW has more users than i'd ever want to count, and i'm sure that annoying Evony thing has plenty of players who are still waiting to undress the ladies depicted in the advertisements. People use Nasm, Tasm, Masm, as they're the ones that are on just about every assembly website, but fasm is used by so few people that the boards aren't exactly exploding with use. Why do so many people pick Intel all the time over AMD (you should see how unreasonable most people are about this issue)?
