Hi,

I need to create an Expert System for my IPT class. It can be on any topic I like, needs to have about 30 conclusions.... The only problem is I can't think of one! I've been trying for weeks, but nothing comes to mind, so I ask you guys, do you have any idea what I could do it on that's preferably related to programming and even assembly somehow?

I'm not asking you guys to do any part of this for me, I just need an idea and can't seem to think of one that sounds good.

Thanks for any help. Smile

Any of these would be good: Chess, Backgammon, 4D tic-tac-toe, Go, Scrabble, Cryptic Crosswords, Poker.

Blackjack and Risk would be too easy.

Hmmmm... the description on wikipedia is slightly different to what i need to do. You know the type of thing that asks a whole heap of questions to narrow down possible answers...

Here's an example they gave us in class: http://www.mcgoo.com.au/SailsWeb/
Basically it asks you a whole heap of questions about what type of sailing ship you saw until is has enough information to tell you what type of sailing ship it was.

In that sense, games are no good.. aside from that, the teacher wants it to be about "a real world topic"... meaning again, no games.

Thanks for the reply though.

Hmmm... "What type of bomb would cause the most casualties in xxxxxx area?" Razz nah I think I'd get marked down purely because of the barbarity of that topic. (Although they'd never admit it of course)

"Easiest way to conceal a bomb of xxx type and size"

I'll consider bombs if no better ideas are thought of. Smile

There are about a gozillion different distros of Linux. Ask Qs about the subtle differences to identify which distro the user has.

Good idea! Problem is that I don't know enough about linux distros. I've only tested (K/X)Ubuntu, Fedora Core and DSL. And it's not very useful since they could just enter a command into a terminal and have it tell them what they're running.

Cats: Lion, tiger, cheetah, moggie, leopard, etc.

Does it have stripes? (tiger, but which breed?)
Does it have spots? (cheetah, are there different breeds of these? or leopard?)
Did it purr when you stroked it? (probably fits all of them, but fun to try)
Does it want you to feed it? (moggie, but see next question)
Is it trying to eat you? (not a moggie)
Did it chase you at 60mph? (cheetah)
Did your intestines make it's mane go red? (male lions have manes)

perhaps a guide to buy computer.

1Q : what is your budget
2Q : do you wanna online facebook, myspace or plan to play some 3D games
3Q : does the looks, color important for you
4Q : portable or you want to put it forever in a location
5Q : battery life? if portable.
6Q : more for you to think...

it sounds dumb, but sometime, this is what those people who don't know bout computer need.

I ended up choosing it to be on Identifying Taekwondo moves.
e.g. "Was it a hand or a leg movement?"
"Was the hand opened or closed?"
"What was the contact area of the strike?"
and resulting in something like "The move was a reverse knifehand block."

It's the kind of thing we were given in examples in class, (like the sailing ships thing) so i figure i can't be wrong. The knowledge base will be large enough to satisfy the needs of the assignment, and no research required because I can provide all the information from my head and cite myself as the resource used to gather information on the topic, which all adds up to a pretty quick finish to the project, which I need because It's due tomorow. Smile

Thanks for everyone's help (It got me thinking about the assignment because i read over this thread right after i got back from training)

And sorry to anyone who put alot of thought into this only to have it not used Razz

because it's so much more interesting! Smile who could resist writing beautiful works of art? (Art here meaning ridiculously obfuscated non-standard programming with no real point to it other than to ....... I don't know where i was going with that.... I'll leave it an no real point to it. Smile)

On the other hand I've been thinking of writing my own esoteric language which will be very similar to befunge, but allow full gui applications, multithreading, sockets, file access, etc. Ok I talked that up a little. I plan on changing a few instructions in befunge, adding a few more math and comparison operators and adding the ability to call the windows api... Then i figure I could write REAL applications with a REAL purpose to them in crazy languages. Smile The main reason I haven't done it yet is because i need to think of a simple way to allow structures and strings, etc to be passed / returned from api functions... and constants would be nice but then it's getting a little away from esoteric and becoming more understandable.. so I'm trying to think how i can make it not to easy and not to hard, but still practical if that makes sense...
