Anyone mind posting a simple example of reading single chars into an array? I've searched all over and have been unable to find any examples.

Nah, you didn't really convince me. Try searching "read char" in the DOS forum only. I'm 100% sure there are many examples.

Besides, why don't you write it yourself?
Hints:
* Buffer space may be reserved using 'rb' (do some reading here)
* DOS interrupt 0x21, function 0x1
* String manipulation instructions (e.g. stosb)

For whole strings and not single chars but may point in the right direction
