Recently my XP internet PC with IE has been running very slow at times (I mean even slower than usual - painfully s-l-o-w Sad )
I checked the performance in Task Manager to see the CPU time running constantly at 99-100%. The Task List showed the culprit to be IEXPLORE.

Recently I've also been leaving my Gmail mailbox open in a window. I close the Gmail window and the CPU usage drops immediately to less than 10% and the PC runs normally again.

Has anybody else noticed this?

Is this a Google marketing strategy for Google Chrome?

I don't know why that would happen. I don't usually leave it open myself for very long and I don't run Windows anyway.

You shouldn't be using IE either. Switch to something else.

This may not fix anything(it may be a gmail bug), but you should switch to Firefox. At first I thought "this is different from IE, I don't like it". But with a little time and some editing of some options,(theres basically thousands of parts of FF you can edit easily, and theres thousands of add-ons too!) I switched and haven't used IE in just under a month now.

Its IE6. I tried FF a year or so ago, but didn't like it for a number of reasons. One thing I recall was that opening a new window would not retain the existing page, but always loaded the default page. Maybe I should try it again - no doubt most things can be customised - with enough patience Wink

Google no longer supports IE6 in GMail. Nor does YouTube. You are probably having problems with the javascript they run. Just forget IE and get Firefox, Chrome, Opera or Safari. DO NOT use IE. It's 11 years behind all other browsers in modern standards and practices.

yeah html classic option, if compare with the standard layout, the ajax one really looks more smooth and easier to use.
