Maybe this program could be helpful in your case? Rolling Eyes

Quote:
DBF Converter supports all the modern data interchange formats, such as XML, CSV, TXT, HTML, RTF, PRG and others. You can even convert your DBF table into a set of SQL queries that can be imported into any SQL database.

In addition to simple conversions, DBF Converter allows you manipulate data by selecting only specific columns and applying filters.

Is there no way to export the xls to csv, write a script to convert all data into INSERT statements and then import the generated SQL statements into dbf?

Here's one method of completing the unwritten conclusion of your sentence above.

However, if your client is loyal, you may wish to consider, in the alternative, simple honesty:

"I don't know".

That sometimes works, though with loss of face, i.e. honor, for those who imagine that humans are, like robots, infallible.

pete's suggestion would be the easiest to implement.

if the csv file is small enough you could make the parser in JavaScript and just paste the whole csv file into a textarea and have the js split it by \n [unless you have multiline text blobs] then some simple parsing logic to make sure you tokenize correctly.

[for those that don't know]
csv - comma separated value files ...
To avoid the confusion of having a comma in the actual value, the value is quoted, so you can't simply use a string "split".
EXAMPLE
Quote:

"alas, this string is 1 value",this is another

the resulting dataset has 1 row with 2 columns

I'm sure a *nix guru could come up with a series of grep/echo/sed commands to output the lines to inserts to a terminal.

lol... thanks God, Allah, Yaweh, or watever beautiful names out there. Smile and fasm fellow members that so kind, helpfull, i love you ALL!!!

damn it, i finally solve this damn problem...
shit to the POS excel to dbf import utility that just do bullshit.

in the process to solve this problem, i broke the law... i mean, intellectual law. so, i apologize here ... to the creator of one particular software that should remained anonymous.

and the database that this damn POS using isn't dbase, but foxpro.. yeah, shit to them, they should make it easier for me to import.

i don't know, but most of the time, this sentence,
"i don't know" wouldn't solve anything...
and not i didn't try using it before, but to the end of the days, i still need to know, coz, they are fucking expecting me to complete that job.

i just need more time, but in today case, they fucking need to use it by tomolo morning.. and thats really .... fucking hell. coz i received that software only around noon today.

phew..... now i need to get some sleep. hopefully everything smooth tomolo and i can get my cheque soon....
