oogle.com is ask.com.

Why do you hate it? If you want results from ask.com then just go to oogle.com Razz

No, it is not named after anything. Although I accept that it is trying to catch anyone that happens to mistype google.com, but that is the users fault not anyone else's fault.

There are a lot of "near miss" sites around. Try typing a few variants of your favourite website and you will see just how many there are. And it doesn't just affect google.com of course, every popular website has this "feature".

Any frequent (G)oogle user will automatically see the difference and look at the URL, other might as well browse the Oogle variant of Aks (Jeeves?).

Dude-who-just-discovered-Google: "Hey man, you heard of google?"
Internet-Noob: "No, what is it?"
Dude-who-just-discovered-Google: "Cool search site man! Totally awesome!"
Internet-Noob: "k."

Later, Internet-Noob mistypes oogle.com, and gets that page with search. He says to himself "Oh, he meant oogle, that stupid idiot, doesn't know how to pronounce properly!"

later he finds out "it sucks" Razz
