Just try to say "www.virustotal.com" or "http://virustotal.com" or "http://www.virustotal.com" (without the quotation marks), non of those will reach destination and you will recieve the error message "message could not be delivered..." (or whatever the message is in English).

You are allowed to say virustotal alone or in all the ways that doesn't get converted as an hyperlink to the virustotal site.

An easy solution is not to use MSN.

Yes, but note that your suggestion must go towards the MSN Network directly since this is not a client problem but it is the server that censors the messages and sends a NAK back.

Example with aMSN (Alvaro's MSN):
[23:06:59] .LocoDelAssembly. says:
have you checked your suspicious file with www.virustotal.com?
[23:07:00] The following message could not be delivered:
have you checked your suspicious file with www.virustotal.com?
[23:07:04] Juana - sabes joins conversation
[23:08:01] .LocoDelAssembly. says:
shit, the message couldn't be delivered, I've said: have you used http://virustotal.com?
[23:08:01] The following message could not be delivered:

Yep, actually that is what I meant, don't use MSN, as in the the whole MSN thing. If it censors you then that is enough reason to switch to something else.

There's been several sites that MSN blocks, server-side. Can't remember the other examples, but they were malware-autoinfection related.

Just tried, seems to be a fixed now. I was the only one with this problem? Maybe it was just targeted to Latin America since with the people I've tested were all from Argentina.

Why do they do this? ΒΆ

The reason that Microsoft has stated is that it is because they may be URLs to exploit Windows or Microsoft Windows Live Messenger security holes.

Rather, the URLs might be able to exploit IE security holes... I'd be interested in seeing some actual MSN exploits, since I haven't come across any, and it would be much more interesting to exploit MSN directly out of the box.

New to the list...

I suppose because someone posted once a specially crafted video that exploits a flash-player's vulnerability and hence the entire site must be banned. Wouldn't be safer to just ban any URL or even disable automatic hyperlinking? This type of censorship looks like comming from people with excesive wanking habits to me, specially because it is very bypassable by providing non-direct links that most noob script kiddies knows how to do...

Today someone told me that the YouTube issue was published in slashdot http://yro.slashdot.org/yro/08/05/10/166204.shtml

I wonder how much it lasted since I realized about this problem on Friday night.
