wisepenguin: Hm, according to that link, you can actually fulscreen console windows on vista if you launch the program with elevated user privileges?

Interesting, because even XP (64bit version) won't let you fullscreen console apps... (and I do mean fullscreen->textmode, NOT just maximizing).

hi f0dder,
yes i gather from thimis' reply, disabling aero and running with elevated privileges allows full screen mode.

i don't have vista installed to confirm. i didnt know it was disabled in XP64 either.

i've just rebooted into XP64 now and full screen is disabled when running XP32 version of cmd.exe too. dont know why i expected it
to be different actually.

update:
i've just installed vista 64 bit to give it a test and the work arounds
to get a full screen console shown in the URL above do NOT work.
so it seems it only works on vista 32.

im going back to xp now.

I believe the only other way is to use DOSBox, which allows fullscreen mode. However, speed may be an issue.

DOSBOX doesn't set a text mode though, does it? And not particularly useful for running fullscreen windows console mode applications anyway Sad

It's a good emulator, a lot of old games are running Razz
I'm using DosBox often because some dos interrupts are not working or they have no result on Windows XP.

You can set DOSBOX to run in full screen mode. It start's out in text mode, just like old DOS (not sure if this is emulated text or not). I'm not sure if it supports some of the more exotic text modes though, you know, 132x50. I'll have to test this and see. Old visicalc run's good in it and it's run pretty much every dos game I've thown at it so far.
