I started MenuetOS from the floppy on my Sony VAIO PCG-FXA53 notebook. The first time I tried it, I told it to copy the files for the virtual drive from the disk. It started the GUI, but it was quite glitchy and nothing appeared to work correctly. So, I turned off the PC. Then I restarted and chose to copy the virtual disk files from the kernel. This made the computer lock up, and I powered down again and removed the disk, frustrated. I hit the power button again, and the little power light came on, but nothing else did. I think that it may have toasted my processor (AMD Athlon XP 1500+) . If anyone could provide any help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried removing the batteries to reset the computer completely ?

If you press power button for 5 seconds, your laptop should turn of completely. Maybe when you pressed power button it made suspend to disk or suspend to RAM function. Do you have reset button in your laptop (usually pressed using pen).

I've tried removing the batteries, running from battery, running from AC without battery, and resetting with the little button on the bottom of the computer. I have removed the ram and put it back in. I have the CMOS battery out right now and am hoping that in 24 hours whatever is wrong will reset. I also have held in the power button for 4/5 seconds, and still nothing.

Any other help would be greatly appreciated.

Just pick the PCG-FXA model.

You might want to try something with the hard drive.
I did a write to the partition table of my harddisk with norton diskedit and it would freeze my computer right after the memory count.
When the hard drive was enabled in bios the computer wouldn't boot.
The only way I could fix it was to do a low level format with the hard drive manufacturer's utility.

Just like the subject says.....the system won't even do a POST, so I cannot get into BIOS or anything. My theory is that the kernel loaded into the memory and somehow burned something out. I'm out for the new SODIMM
