Greetings.

I encountered a strange error after I select a VESA display mode. EGA/CGA/VGA are fine. The error says:

Fatal - 24 or 32 bpp.

All I can guess is that my video card does not support 24 bpp or 32 bpp (which is not the case, because I am using 24 bpp on my usual OS).

I also tried it with VMware Workstation 4 and got the same error for all the VESA modes. Here's a screenshot (attached).

I would really appreciate some help. After all, the nonVESA modes don't look very nice. Thanks, all, in anticipation of your aid.

Hi Mastermind, You could also try the new pre 3.1 which has bios probing for graphics mode.

I encountered the same error!

But I want to know how you get the screenshot of the picture while the machine is booting?

I guess you made the screenshot using VMWare?
I had the same error using Bochs.... all i needed to do was use the other VGA bios (VGABIOS-lgpl-latest). Seems your gfx card isn't VESA compliant. What hardware do you use?

Hmmm... I am using an integrated SiS650 video card on the real machine. VMware has its own "VMware" video card. The first MeOS did not work on either. But the second one I downloaded did.

Yes, the screenshot was done by VMware - i used PrintScreen. Is there a way to do it without hitting PrintScreen?

no other way to make a screenshot than using a "virtual machine" like Bochs or VMWare...

doesn't surprise me it''s an SIS with shared memory.... had some troubles with XF86 too....

Yeah. But XFree86 4.3.0 solved the problems.

But why should the VMware have problems? XFree did not complain.
