Well, I've heard of those new prefixes just recently, and found these sounds ridicular. Anyone feels the same?

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, here is the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_prefix and go to "IEC standard prefixes"

There may be a need of disambiguation, but the one who inveted those new prefixes definitely got too far. Even the profs at university don't like to use them.

They are VERY useful. There has been more than enough
trolling like:

Code:
HELP !!!!! Bought a 500GB hard drive and now Vista
shows me 450 GB only !!! I want my 50 GB back !!!

The guilty people on this mess are definitely the hard drive
manufacturers persistently boasting with capacities
higher than they actually are. And there are still enough
fools considering a 500 GB hard drive much more valuable
than a 450 GB one Very Happy

BTW: All my HD's are below 10 GiB and do NOT plan
to join the silly race Very Happy

Even worse: Complete FASM DOS installation incl. source, examples,
documentation and HDPMI32 fits on a 10 GiB HD only 10'000 times Very Happy

The problem with that is that the new standards will make those people think that they and the drive manufacturers were right, and that W**d**s and all other programmers(that includes us, fasm people), IT-people, hardware-engineerers(Intel,AMD...) were wrong all over the years! This will lead to a more or less huge IT-theory and programs reviewing amount.
