I am working on a small operating system, and it needs a filesystem. I have been trying to create my own without much luck, so I was thinking about having it use the DOS (FAT) filesystem. I know that I can use int 21h to work with files in DOS, but my operating system is independent of DOS. Is there a way I can use int 21h without DOS, or is there a set of macroinstructions or procedures that I can use to manipulate the DOS filesystem?

i think answer is "no". ripping only the FS-code from dos could be little hard, and code can rely on things that rely on things.... sorry

There are many open source file systems, I think. I don't know for sure, because I've never gotten that far in OS dev. Google is your friend.
