I once tried enabling XP style for fasmw on my machine, but reverted it back, because sadly the skin I use doesn't support the turned-up tabs the fasmw is using (they were displayed as a standard ones and that looked terrible).

No, only the uxtheme.dll patcher.

I used an external manifest file to enable the XP visual style, just put it into the same directory of fasmw.exe - you don't have to modify the source and recompile it every time Tomasz releases a newer version.
