I'm interested in finding out how to do networking (connecting to servers, sending packets, sockets, etc...) in assembly. I'd like to know how to do this both under Windows (where, I hear it's a pain because of WinSock), and UNIX (OpenBSD specifically).

Does anyone have links to any good tutorial or any advice for a beginner on this topic? Smile

Thanks,
Anthony

The MadWizard tutorial is very good, it's my favorite. There is also an extremely good FASM code example on the examples page that TG created, quetannon.

Not so "extremely good", it still lacks in area of error handling - I planned to improve it, but I forgot...

I constantly have ideas about tutorials that show you (with a nice GUI) the process of "something". In this case - networking. It would be fun to watch some progressbar and descriptions what is happening at the moment. All in slow-motion. That way you can disable your networking/pull out the cord etc. while it is pulling up connections or while connected and see what causes which parts to fail.
Maybe its just a nice demo, but hopefully it would be an instructive demo. My problem is that I can't find the time (or motivation?) to do it. So here is my idea - go on and steal it - I won't finish it anyway!
