I've really only made DOS command-style files, I've been nervous to delve into any other type like EXE. Lately, I've been testing FASM and noticed a few disconcerting things. When a jump is too far away, it won't jump.

Is it possible that .COM files are limited in jump size, I believe they are! If so, you do I get around that?

well, com file is limited to 64 KBytes, so it is limited a bit, but you can always use jmp far to jump to 32 bit address,
jmp is macine instruction and is not restricted in a com file.
