can an ASM code that runs OK on an intel CPU rus as well on an, let's say, Athlon?

certainly,

x86 instruction set is cloned in all modern x86 architectures,

only special instructions will not run on an intel cpu for example like: AMD 3dnow

i dont know currently above Pentium 3, i have a Celeron II now, and it does not know any 3d now, but it knows 55% higher clock rate than rated ;>

really new intel processors have AMD's 3D now! ?

AFAIK Intel never supported 3DNow! extensions and probably never will support it. Intel released its own multimedia extension, MMX, instead.

No, but new AMD processors have Intel's SSE/SSE2/SSE Smile For example, Althon XP supports SSE.
