What's the problem?
I don't really understand software patents, what's the big deal? I don't like the political people and big corporations meddling with us programmers, but
why do people get so angry about software patents?

Let's take something simple, like the bubblesort algorithm. I go and patent the software (eg algorithm and associated source), and now everyone in the world is *required* to pay *me* money to use it.

I now decide that since I invented the double-click operation (eg to open a file in a GUI), I patent that operation. Now every OS that uses a double click to open a file, has to pay me for doing likewise.

The primary issue for me, is that the patents cover too much area, rather than a specific item. Because large corporations have the cash to patent just about everything they do, it stops innovation from occuring (as the large corporations are now sueing everyone for patent violations)...
