Necromancer's Dos Navigator v2.31.5458 (the best file manager) ready to download

Today is 2017-07-27

Necromancer's Dos Navigator [NDN] is a clone of the famous "Norton Commander". It uses an easy to use and learn text-mode interface, is highly customizable, and has a lot of features.

Features:
- Long File Names Support
- Multi-windowed interface
- Disk utilities
- Comprehensive File Manager
- 26 types of archives supported
- Powerful customizable editor with 3 code pages support
- Hex-editor with code pages support
- Huge strings support
- Regular expressions
- Spreadsheet communications
- Multiconfiguration
and more...

32-bit and 64-bit versions exist for Dos and Windows:
NDN: DOS/DPMI32 (D32)
NDN: DOS/DPMI64 (D64)
NDN: Windows (W32)
NDN: Windows (W64)
NDN: Language resources - Can be used to translate the resource files to other languages or to customize keyboard shortcuts.

It is possible to download files from here.

They are test versions (particularly 64-bit) therefore I ask to report possible bugs!!!

I have not tried this (yet).

Though I'm well aware of NDN (DOS) and have it installed. But I had thought it was abandoned a long time ago (2010), so I don't know how you even found sources (which were never public, AFAIK, unlike other DN variants).

I don't even frequent this forum that much anymore, so it's luck that I even noticed. But it sounds highly intriguing, for various reasons!

I suspect you'd get more testing if you mentioned it at BTTR's forum or perhaps on one of the FreeDOS mailing lists.

I used 2.31.5414 under Windows 10/32 bit for a while. So far there is one noticeable difference compare with 5309 - 5414 can't not open current directory in the browser from Ctrl-F shortcut. This feature works fine in 5309. Also, "start ." from NDN command line opens current directory in the browser just fine.

Is it any better than mc? Also I can't find the link to source code tarballs or repository. How am I supposed to run it on an ARM, MIPS or RISCv machine?

NDN targets the x86_64 architecture only.

But in the first post you wrote:

Anyway, does it have any code which won't work on ARM or MIPS cpu? And even if it does, the user has to have access to complete correspondent source code to study how the program work, adapt it to their needs and port it to other CPU if they want to.

New test versions of the NDN file manager are now available.

The Dos64 version added, among other things, the ability to run in VCPI mode (if you have more than 4GB of memory - 8GB is welcome). It could be JEMM memory manager or similar. Everything still needs to be tested.

You can find them here: http://www.ndn.muxe.com/download/
