What is an uncomplicated way of translating x86 assembly language into C or C++?

Im trying to convert the source code of Concurrent CP/M, into something more conventional.

Description: cp/m-86 1.0

no hard drive support;

took me ages to find & make work right.

Download
Filename: CPM86 10 no hard drive.zip
Filesize: 268 KB

Wrapping everything into __asm {} blocks and carefully setting up the compiler? But why? General purpose compiler is not a good way to compile certain parts of an OS. Why not Java then? It seems to be quite conventional as well.

In the second issue of Paged Out! magazine there is an interesting article (which I mentioned here) that shows an example of [mostly] automatic conversion of an assembly project to C. But the sources of that project used some high level constructs to begin with. Conversion of a code that is structured with jumps would be more tricky.
