Theres also weston/wayland which some project might replace xorg windows server in some cases
http://wayland.freedesktop.org/ its in the works I think qt, gtk etc all use x windows server/xorg... |

Not sure how great it is yet. Ill have to make an install of archlinux and try it myself. I tried in the past with some other distro and it didnt seem so far along but i think there have been updates and new releases now |
