I don't think 7-Zip is what he means. Vista and 7 don't come with the deprecated .HLP reader anymore. You have to download it manually.

b1528932,

I need newer Win 3.1 SDK, too. It's pity they've dropped its support years ago.

MSDN clearly states minimum OS version requirement for API function to be supported. What else do you need?

yeah, minumum is in most cases win 2000, when even 95 support it.

Today i discovered for example, that the only way to make winsock work under 95 is by WSAAsyncSelect(). WSAEventSelect() was addedd in windows 98.

Why are you programming for an OS that is 15 yeas old? Not that I would know why/not to use/program for it. I was 1yo when it was released...

Do you mean something like MSDN, but in a form to be downloaded and kept local?

  • it works
  • he has it and uses it
  • he knows someone else who has it and uses it
  • why not?

If you want to write all your code to require SSE4.2, that's fine. For the rest of us, we try to be compatible (unless there's a very very good reason, usually not).

it seems windows 95 couldn't installed in current mainstream pc(s) except in virtualization mode....

i think the last batch that possible is (pentium 3) after that, it is impossible.( or nearly impossible)
