Any change to memory will be reflected back into the CPU at all cache levels. This is by design so that self modifying code will work. It might not be fast or efficient but it will work.
Self-modifying code apparently slows everything down like mad (esp. on P4 or Athlon64) if you aren't like 4 kb away from the part you modify. (To avoid too off-topic here, I guess I'll post details in "
Projects and Ideas / another DOS Befunge93 (BEFI.COM)" ). It's clearly not a good idea if you want maximal speed.
