I think that before we can promote fasm we must make yet some more improvements. One of fasm's biggest problems is that, pardon me for saying this, has a community that seems very distant and self concerned. This leads to a very important point...
People don't like new things, so the main group you must concentrate on is the people who are starting in assembly. And, as great as fasm is, it's not newbie friendly. If past occurrences on aren't a big enough clue, we still have very few examples and very few tutorials to help people entirely new to assembly (and often programming in general) get their feet off the ground. We all know and acknowledge it needs to be done, but yet we're all pre-occupied more with our own personal projects (like a particular OS or a program for that OS) and/or topics on the boards that we decide to rely on the next guy to make them. Moreso, some of the examples are getting outdated. It seems to me like everyone's relying on Tomasz for official solutions to particular problems (like the things seen with linux binaries), but, to put it bluntly, he's got a life (and a very busy one at that). There is FASMLIB, but we need a little more than that. There's more i'd like to say (some other big things we could do), but i feel that it might end up hijacking this thread (as if this isn't hijacking already). |

Now my constructive positive critic: I propose to the moderators to start a new thread called "The Future of Fasm" (or something similiar), where we can reasonably discute about all the matters you suggest, and more other points. Please,moderators, dont tell me that there is already one similiar. The point is always actual and new. Please, try now to discard this own impression of mine: Tomasz is alone with fasm... Feryno is alone with his debugger... vid was alone with his fasmlib ... ... and last wheel of the board... i am alone with my IDE. note that i have started programming asm almost 2 years ago, some months before i joined this forum, and now i have my own IDE, to edit and compile asm files with fasm. I share a project. It is not much, ok, but the point is that very few,few persons have really helped me to improve my asm-learning by coding. I can count them on my decimal numbering system. ...The future of fasm, this is a really relevant point to discuss. Regards, hopcode |

I'm sure fasm needs more examples. I've been in a situation when a guy on local Czech asm forum asked what assembler should he use to start learning assembly language in Windows. It's hard not to recommend MASM32 because it has so many examples that it's pretty easy to find an interesting one almost for anyone.
(and don't ask me, I use fasm very rarely, mostly for playing with instructions). |

What Fasm needs is a beginners Assembly book, based on fasm, that would make a big differanc.

Are you looking for easy money? Because good programs are made from good ideas by themselves, not by looking for some easy cash. If you're desperately looking for cash I suggest you look elsewhere than software. If anything you'll at least not rip off some people who could probably choose a better freeware alternative than a few weeks worth of code for $100 or more. Wouldn't that make you feel bad?
