Microsoft Virtual PC is now free download.
Anyone got this tool? Is it good for OS develpment tests?

EDIT: I could run DSL Linux very fast with it! It seems to work pretty good and is easy to use (working with few clicks). Althought it looks more bloated than QEMU for those who want to just test their toy OS. But it might have some great features that I didn't explore much.

I heard that VPC doesn't do a very good job of emulating actual computer hardware. I also think you are kind of limited in what you can tweak. For example, in Bochs, you can use a completely different driver for input and things. To me, it looks like VPC was built mainly for emulating Microsoft products.

From my experience, VirtualPC is a bit slower than vmware, but sometimes a bit better at emulating "weird operating systems" (of the homebrew kind).

My conspiracy theories say that the main reason Microsoft purchased VPC was to support XBOX-1 games in the XBOX360...

That actually makes a lot of sense. I have never heard that theory before.

WMware doesn't exist but VMware Player and Server are free Razz

The Workstation is the paid version (worth it imo).
