How does the load directive exactly work?

I tryed to create a checksum for my kernel but it failed always with "value out of range".
I guess the problem is the way I use org:

db 0xD

load firstbyte from 0       ;works fine

org $+100
org $-100

load firstbyte_again from 0 ;dosnt work

Is this a bug or is it just not possible to use load and org like this?

you must load from current address space, and before current offset. address space is changed by "virtual", "org" etc.
