so that you may have a better idea what the interpreter is all about and maybe encourage you to dive into the source code

Manual is very nice.
It is still a very large project.
A lot of code is based on a DOS interfaces.
I think it will be easier just to port every UBASIC item into Windows Console Project, instead of translating the DOS ASM opcode-by-opcode.
I am coding a x64 IDE right now, so... not completely free to code, but I do code sometimes some small apps, just to rest from IDE coding.
