What does it mean "extra characters on line"?
When I add this line to my program to import a test resources file I made,

Code:
section ".rsrc" resource readable from "test.res"

It gives me the error message "extra characters on line". What does that even mean? There's not extra characters. In fact, this is the last line in my code, and there aren't even any spaces after it. Certainly no displayable text.

This obscure message means that the assembler encountered an unexpected clause in a place that could already be considered the end of a correct statement. In this case the statement was:

Code:
section ".rsrc" resource readable

and the assembler would consider it finished if the line ended at this point. And then it encountered "from", which is unexpected in the section attributes except for one special case of a "resource from" clause, and was considered not belonging to the statement here (and called it an "extra" set of characters at the end of line).

A "resource from X" is a special idiom, it is not a set of separate clauses and must be written strictly:

Code:
section ".rsrc" readable resource from "test.res"
