I was referring to the form/function thing when I said "it", not to orthogonality.

i.e. form/function is more parallel in my eyes than orthogonal. Because form is not "very different" or "opposite" of function. Also, orthogonality means they have a common base, no? To me, having a common base is subjective and depends on the artist's interpretation.

I personally need form to require function but form can be much more though. Just because something "works" doesn't mean I find it any good or beautiful by itself, even if it works "good enough". So form is more advanced / picky to me.

Obviously in the eyes of someone else, he has his own criteria.

Well, that may not be true.

In fact, we typically use the x-axis to represent an independent variable, and the y-axis a dependent variable. Obviously, "y" is dependent on "x".

While I do understand that in statistics, "orthogonal" is used to describe the scenario where two sets of data have essentially zero correlation, I don't think we can just "copy and paste" its meaning here. We -- at least some of the participating forum members -- are using the adjective in connection to arts. So, I think it makes sense to say:

parallel: similar / related / sympathetic
orthogonal: different / unrelated / antagonistic

BTW, my post count, as of now, is 6699, which is a number that I love very very much! Haha ...

Which means, if your love for that number is very very strong enough so that you can't bear to destroy it, you will never be able to say another thing on this board

Didn't mean to offend women that way, though. You see, English is my second language

But I speak 4 different languages at 'times of extreme chemicals'. Swahili most of the time. Japanese the least.
