Why can't Linux/FreeBSD/Something save us from this tyranny?

There are folks who already moved to Linux/FreeBSD land and live happily there without resorting to Windows at all
(or mostly, probably except for playing games).

I am one of them... Don't know what Windows is since 2007 (since Windows Vista)... Happy user of Linux since then...

In the meantime, the vast majority of Windows 10 users -- a whopping 61.1 percent -- are still running the April 2018 Update from a year ago, suggesting people unsurprisingly prefer stability over the latest bells and whistles. Windows 7’s enduring popularity is testament to that…
Note to MS: It would appear as though people don't want to be forced to install all the latest trendy-wendy updates. So now you can relax and instead focus on fixing bugs, giving people the choice about when to update, and removing all the big-brother telemetry. Thanks.

I've been hearing rumours that in the past couple of weeks the latest MS updates are forcing on secure boot in the UEFI. Does anyone know if this is true? If it is then that is well beyond anything reasonable. Why would MS feel so entitled as to change settings they should not be touching? That would lock out any chance of running code not MS approved. MS wants to control everything you do, how dare you think you are permitted to do whatever you want with "your" computer.

Now imagine if UEFI didn't exist, over-engineered piece of crap. Then we wouldn't have these issues either, no matter how dumb Windows 10 would be.
