Quote: In the meantime, the vast majority of Windows 10 users -- a whopping 61.1 percent -- are still running the April 2018 Update from a year ago, suggesting people unsurprisingly prefer stability over the latest bells and whistles. Windows 7’s enduring popularity is testament to that… |

I've been hearing rumours that in the past couple of weeks the latest MS updates are forcing on secure boot in the UEFI. Does anyone know if this is true? If it is then that is well beyond anything reasonable. Why would MS feel so entitled as to change settings they should not be touching? That would lock out any chance of running code not MS approved. MS wants to control everything you do, how dare you think you are permitted to do whatever you want with "your" computer.

Now imagine if UEFI didn't exist, over-engineered piece of crap. Then we wouldn't have these issues either, no matter how dumb Windows 10 would be.

So you want to use a VPN to stop your employer/ISP/government from spying on you? Well you can only do that if you allow Microsoft to spy on you instead.
To fix RASMAN error 0xc0000005 with Group Policies, follow these steps: Also, registry backups don't work. Microsoft Admits Windows 10 Registry Backups Don't Work Quote: What Microsoft confirms it did was quietly switch off Registry backups in Windows 10 eight months ago, despite giving users the impression this crucial safeguarding system was still working. As Ghacks spotted at the time, Registry backups would show “The operation completed successfully", despite no backup file being created. Quote: So why has Microsoft done this? In the company’s own words: “to help reduce the overall disk footprint size of Windows”. And how big is a registry backup? Typically 50-100MB. |

I stopped updating a long time ago.
After MS breached the trust that was the end for me, no more updates. And, no, my systems have not become overrun with malware. I know many people would like to suggest that a system without updates will become some sort of malware magnet and start ruining the Internet or something. But that just doesn't happen. At least not in my experience. My Win10 system has never been connected to the Internet. I can't trust it because I don't trust MS. MS feel they have the right to just take whatever data they please. Without saying when or why. Without asking. Last edited by revolution on 29 Jul 2019, 16:54; edited 1 time in total |

My XP machine is still my main workhorse when I'm in the office; and it hasn't been updated in eons.
I also have my Mint box for when I travel. The Win10 box also travels but I refuse to connect with it. |

Something goes wrong after the installation is said to be complete: after rebooting it cannot find system files. Something is definitely wrong with SATA drivers but Intel doesn’t seem to provide valid ones for XP anymore and other solutions fail to work either. |

i don't think you can install xp in current laptop model, there are way too many drivers that not available and xp wouldn't even boot to desktop,
the best luck would be getting 2nd or 3rd gen notebook, those that came with Windows 7. the sata driver one needs to load it through usb floppy disk, or integrated it into xp iso (slipstream), or usb if you used usb to kick start xp setup. driver available from intel, one could search it by motherboard chipset model. that is afaik, more on Google. |

Quote: But inside the update is a botched Cortana fix which is causing the service to gobble up to 40% of user’s CPUs. Wave goodbye to half your PC’s power and a good chunk of battery life. Quote: And what’s most frustrating is Microsoft was warned about this prior to release, shipped it anyway and continues to ignore it. |

Recently I've been hating on Microsoft because of stupid forced updates. I do not like shutting my computer down because I have a lot of programs and browser tabs open. Granted, my primary disk is an SSD, it still is annoying having to restart and setup your dev environment again.
Sometimes, somehow, updates happen in the background and mess up the computer so bad that applications don't open any more even to the point I can't restart/shut down/hibernate, or sleep the pc. I have to hold the power button down ![]() I have attempted to disable the updates in so many ways but the service just keeps popping back up. The most barely effective method was to boot in recovery mode and rename the update files (DLLs, EXES). Even then, Windows got smart enough to restore those files. |

You will comply with Microsoft's control. Resistance is futile. Just obey your master and thank them for allowing you to use their software.
