vstudio, there are community edition and another lite edition, afaik, no registration required to download and use,

i hope you got ssd in your new pc, otherwise it would runs terribly slow with Windows 10,

you could try search for psdk, it is smaller compare to msdn, i don't think psdk integrated with vstudio,

using new version of vstudio might force you to use equal version of msdn, i mean the browsing msdn help in vstudio sort of integration,

I guess posts like these are my version of version control, heh. I'm too dumb for git, i guess. If I had 500 different .cpp files in my program, sure I would need git, no questions. But right now I just backup my single file manually from time to time, with names like backup1_before_multithreading.
Yeah I kinda do similar things too, often.

The reason isn't so much because I can't grasp git (I use it daily) but because I'm obsessed with knowing exactly and where my files are, all the time. I hate the opaque .git directory, even though it's using delta compression, it's just too opaque for my liking. Confused

git is great though don't get me wrong, especially when working with others or trying to contribute to another project. Its terminology is really confusing. Here's an easier way to understand it:

  • Each commit is a snapshot of specific files. Meaning, their contents at a specific point. Generally I just think of it as a snapshot of all the files I work on.
  • "Branches" is a retarded name for what's essentially a bookmark or checkpoint. It's nothing more than a "named" commit. So it's simply a pointer (or bookmark) to the respective snapshot.
  • What other version controls refer to "commit" in git is more like a "pull" request or a patch contributed via some mailing list. The commits you make are local, it's only when you send them that they become "commits" in the centralized repository.

Some projects are a fucking pain to contribute to, though. What is really annoying is when you try to contribute to some other project and they want you to split up your pull requests into smaller bits. Especially when you need a large refactor (because the current code is garbage) it's an absolute pain in the fucking ass to separate the commits.

It's rare to find an open source project without asshat maintainers demanding a lot of extra work from you (when you already wasted time refactoring it in the first place), and in the end resulting in probably giving up and their stupid current code is much worse.

So honestly most of the time it's not worth for me, I'd rather not contribute to those idiots at all and not waste time for nothing and become so damn stressed.

maybe we should think of a better way to manage changes?

I’ve been suggesting my students to take VCS as their course assignment like for ages by now. No results still. I’d say, most VCS’ are overkill for pet projects written by a single person.

Okay, for turbojpeg-static and jpeg-static projects, I changed C/C++ -> Code Generation -> Runtime Library from "Multi-threaded Debug" to "Multi-threaded Debug DLL", and recompiled it and my main project.

MSVCR80D.dll is missing. Anybody got this? I'm afraid of googling for dll.

Well, I hope https://dll-files.com/msvcr80d.dll.html is safe. And visual studio complains about using dll without a manifest file, and program itself crashes. Welp, let's try just "Multi-threaded" instead.

Nope.

Code:
1>Linking...
1>MSVCRTD.lib(MSVCR80D.dll) : error LNK2005: _fread already defined in LIBCMT.lib(fread.obj)
1>MSVCRTD.lib(MSVCR80D.dll) : error LNK2005: _exit already defined in LIBCMT.lib(crt0dat.obj)

I probably should give up on cmake, and just try to make a library the visual studio style. They are just not very compatible. There is no way to teach cmake to make a project with different options for debug and release, you need to create two separate projects in two separate folders. I may be wrong.

Didn't really touched that for 2 weeks now.

Try reading Parallel Paradise, it's a gift that keeps on giving, it's good. In Elfen Lied he had a few moments that were intended as drama but became really funny, and now he uses that quite intentionally.

Also Demonophobia is quite good, no commercial game or movie will ever gets close to that, which actually depresses me. There aren't that many ryona games that worth any attention, but this one should entertain even people who never heard that word before. I didn't got any news about this genre, wonder if there's anything new here. I heard Lara Croft has some elements, lol.

What people find in java, I don't understand. I heard that it was simpler than winapi, well, everything is simpler than winapi. It's not that simple by now anyway. The other advantage is that it generates SSE accelerated code automatically for you, which to me looks impossible simply due to the memory alignment requirement, and this generation seems to slow down app startup time. Really want to learn SSE already, that's the main reason I dug into libjpeg-turbo in the first place, because I wanted to see good SSE code.

I learned how I can disable watermark in windows 10 for a few hours, by editing registry a bit and reloading. I will probably go back to windows 7, because antivirus you can't disable and forced updates freak me out, I learned to hate updates since my ubuntu days, and firefox updates only enforce this. I learned that tutanova email works for registering visual studio, unity and skype, so that's one problem solved.

Watched JonTron? I think Barry, Jon's editor, is the real star of the show. He uses nothing but game footage to make them really jumpy and alive. The yellow text he intoduced is unseparable from JonTronShow and GameGrumps. Once he started making videos without Barry, pacing went to shit, and Jon looks very tired in almost every shot. Yet people keep asking for more.

AVGN seems to somehow avoid the stress by simply not caring enough about his videos, for them they are "just quick videos to put on the net". Somehow, when pro doesn't care, he still produces better things than an amateur who tries very hard. Especially true for drawing, though quick != lazy.

Not caring sometimes helps greatly.

I want to bring a girl home, and fuck her brains out, but walls are so thin, neighbours will hear every moan. It's probably not as loud as I think, I can't trust porno videos with anything but anatomy. It's not like I'm getting younger each year.

Porn addiction is the only bad addiction I have, and not sure if it's that bad. I'm no medic. Addiction is probably too strong a word, but I don't want to check if I can go without porn.

I keep saving youtube bookmarks, but I have no good ui for playing them. I need to save thumbnails locally. Since I can write firefox addons relatively easy now, saving thumbnails for every bookmarked video should be easy. I don't trust youtube with storing my videos, he keeps deleting them, I think like 5% of videos I enjoyed are deleted now due to copyright. Imagine 5% of your life lost without a trace. Eh, most people lose 90% and are ok with it.

It sure is easier typing your plans than actually doing them.

I'm watching markiplier letsplay of "off" now. (EDIT: play it by yourself instead.) It's better than I thought. RPG maker games and letsplayers fit really well together, but I wish game authors actually asked people to voice their games, would act as "directors". Can you choose a correct voice for a character after hearing the first sentence he says? You can't, but in let'splays you can't do anything else. Maybe after I'll collect enough money, I can hire some people to voice something. Or, as Katawa devs said, "money will destroy us".

Didn't visit nicovideo for 2 years. From the moment their new videos became bigger than 100MB. Videos load way to slow. Also I don't quite understand the correct way to save them, it was easier when they were just a single .flv or .mp4 file, now it's a bunch of files, I don't know. If I can't save it, I might as well not watch it. If I'll watch it, I'll be constantly worrying "hey, is that video still online yet? I need to save it already", but if I don't ever encounter it, I don't care what happens to it.

I did a firefox extension that saved every video that I watched on my hdd. Cue my hdd space starvation. Couldn't buy a new hdd for a while, thank me it's in the past. So, since I had to free space and couldn't just delete them, I took a few seconds from each video and saved them as VideoID.mp4. Rewatching them is as good as watching the full videos. I used AviDemux for lossless copypaste of video, it can do that if the first frame is keyframe.

Americans really like violence and cruel humour, yet at times disgustingly christian or minority-driven. Japanese like porn and art, though obliviously they have everything. Russians are, well, depressing is the best word for it, black humour all the way, lots of spoken stories and local memes. Other countries I know nothing about. Well, Sweden with Moomins. I got no news from them in the last 10 years, probably nothing from there worth my attention.

"commercial culture" is a more precise term for "popular culture", I think. It's not the only culture there is. Common knowledge, or spread even a little information is in a sense a culture. If 5 people know that place A got some very good view, it's in a sense a culture.

I wish I had more time, 2 days per week isn't enough for anything. I need to wait for 2 more months.

Too lazy to open each thread individually, so I read like 3% of them. Also, every thread I follow, I just reopen them manually from time to time. You guys probably use email for all that, but I'd rather use some sort of program that would parse the site and show all new posts on a single page. Too lazy to make that too. Whenever I read a post, I have nothing to reply anyway.

Since I learned how hdd works internally, I keep thinking how I can speed up my programs with it. Things like system-wide message that is sent every 30 seconds to all programs that listen to it, and upon that message they send to the os some data that needs saving. And data from all those apps gets stored to hdd in a single write, on the single sequential range. Maybe can add some versioning functionality directly into the filesystem itself. Maybe can add some power failure protection and primitive granularity, by ending every transaction with a counter dword that is constantly increased by one (last dword of write #999 is 999, so if after power failure the dword matches, you can be 99.99999% sure that last write was completed to the end. Wish somebody would pay me to do crazy shit like this.

I need to ask demosceners, if they bothered to fill all the "unused" fields in the pe header with data, why don't they make a better executable format instead? If os interface is the ugliest part of your program, you should change the os.

I like the concept of "dangerous knowledge" from The King in Yellow. Something that is completely true, yet still more harmful than helpful. I need more real life examples though. Wonder if assembly is something like that.

There are so many things I almost forgot, but waits in my graveyard of links, waiting for me to be able to manage them with proper tools and dedication. Nobody can remember internet, and it keeps rotting away with every passing year. I hate the fact that I can't tell you about things I don't remember name of, or youtube videos I don't remember titles or id of, because those are the best ones.

I have my database of danbooru tags in python marshal format, and I have other sites metadata in a bunch of small json files, I need to convert those to a better format (database or binary).

Wonder if I can hire anybody here, how much does your time worth? Programmers are expensive, so I doubt that. I should just quit job, that's the best path.

Annoying bug in firefox, which probably not many people notice because they don't use tags for bookmarks as much. Bookmarks are sorted wrong in "recent tags". They are in order 1 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 9, where 1 is oldest and 9 is newest.

I like using tags like "bored", "maybe_later", "fap", "music" and such, I can save links for later without using keyboard, with mouse only. Saving without tags means they are lost for another few years, because I add like 5-10 new bookmarks every day.

If you want to lose a few hours on nothing, akinator is fun.

Feels like talking with a wall. That's what I usually do anyway.

Feels like the moment I'll share something, it will disappear due to copyright strike. Copyright is a double edged sword, it keeps money flowing, but it forbids derivative works to an extend. Nah, it's stupid, not many people visit here anyway. I'm watching FlamingShark now, or rather, should be watching. If I'd watch some of those shows alone, I'm sure I'd be bored out of my skull, but by seeing him express emotions I somehow feel them too, or rather, get some enjoyment from that.

Game "Words Worth", first released on PC-98 and something else, then ported for windows xp with actual 3d labirinths and 3d models. I finished the xp version, I'm still midway PC-98 version for almost a year, I watched 5 volumes ova, and read the artbook. Just getting all those together feels like an adventure, an artifacts from lands far beyond and completely alien to our world. Art is super good, and animation is, well, when it's good it's super good, when I found hmv with it I couldn't jerk off to it due to how beautiful it is. This taught me what character design is, and why it's important. I watched a video with all hentai released in chronological order, and when it came to 1997 comments went all like "aaah it came! it's here!". Apparently it's a big deal. The english translation of the xp game is utter garbage, it's done by google translate. Thought, they never say anything too complex, so you'll likely to understand it even without the translation. Except of that old nag, which actually tells old stories of the world you're in, but once you understand what "kage no ichizoku" and "hikari no ichizoku" mean you pretty much done. And they repeat those words so much, it's hard to not understand them.

Wonder if my pc is infected with some kind of shit, it's quite a possibility. Google doesn't like me log in, it's either too rare nowadays for somebody to delete all cookies on every browser restart, or some software on my pc tries to do something I don't know about. At least they don't encript my files or something, I'd purge my hdd immediately without problems. Hm, I need to backup some stuff... By the way, there is some option somewhere, so that google isn't as paranoid when you log in, and stop annoying you with "you can't log in, it's not you, you're not human, enter your phone number or you're not a human, also pay us and watch our ads".

My plan: compile that thing without cmake on windows 10, then delete 10 and install 7.

Heard that "mega uploader" adds some trash bytes at the end of the file, it's suspicious, why he does that? You are also required to install an app to download files bigger than, I think, 500 MB. I don't understand why any of that.

Why people use discord, why not mumble? It doesn't lag as much.

vinesauce has a lot of videos, but they are often about trash games and trash in general. The variety is very satisfying, but it's like drinking one gallon of shit after another, while listenning to a swedish dude talk about swedish shops and swedish celebrities, I can't care less about half of it. Once you have him in your youtube's right tab, it's there forever, unless you change your google account. Right tab is sometimes interesting, but most of the time only distracting or annoying. Can't they just use tags? Actually, youtube gave up and died the moment they disabled the "new videos" page, now the only way to watch new videos is by either going to some channels you already know, or some random third party sites. This is why big channels will stay big, even if all their visitors will keep vomiting on each visit, there's just no alternative, 99,99% of videos will get 0.01% of attention, if you just upload a video on youtube, nobody will ever find it. Social part of it is dead, it's only a video hosting now.

I'm the kind of guy who can complain about absolutely opposite things. Sometimes simultaniously, like I want to go in both directions. That's what advencha is about, huh.

Drawing and watching drawings is like talking, except saying things is extremely slow, and hearing things is extremely fast. Considering that there are 7 000 000 000 people for me to hear, we need to learn to draw fast.

By complaining about thing A, I only make thing A stronger. What can I do then? Nah, it makes it more well known, which can be either good or bad for it.

Arena track is really good.

As I understand it, this site downloads wav in the browser, and then plays it in the loop. I want to know how to play mp3 in loop, or ogg or opus or whatever. As I understand it, each audio compression requires a bit of data before the seek point, it will decode a few milliseconds or microseconds of audio into nothing on seeking. It sure is true for opus, but not so sure for mp3 or ogg.

Proper looping will require, saving the state of decoder at some point in time, and then restoring the state back after when looping needs to happen. I need to find an mp3 decoder, and see what state it uses.

As I understand it, mp3 and aac audio uses fixed bitrate (always same number of bits per second), while ogg and opus can change bitrate mid song. I'm not sure which is the best to use, I heard that aac is actually simpler than mp3 without that much lose in

By the way, I see black boxes in the text sometimes as I type, probably my browser's bug. Or who knows what.

When somebody says I'm working too slow, I only start working slower. Like, it's their problems if they get less sells in this month, it's not like somebody will die because of that. I'm quite sure that you are getting more from me than I myself get.

No matter what I'll do, tomorrow will come, and day will end. I just have to wait, I don't care, I'll have more time in 2 months. 3. Really hope they will just fire me, but I suspect they'll just pay me 1/2 of the minimal wage instead, I don't trust them. That'd be even worse than firing.

Is SSE even that good. I should learn it just in case. But not today. Because 5 hours ain't enough apparently.

News that don't change your decisions are useless. News that manipulate you into making certain decisions are harmful. I don't watch news. News will find me eventually anyway, if they are big enough. I want to live in a word without news, "forever safe", bad idea.

This is vs2017 docs... https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/visualstudio/?view=vs-2017

wtf is Universal Windows Platform (UWP)? Something for those windows phones? No thanks, I need a windows app for now. Yeah i know it works on both, but later.

I need some music right now.

Hm, maybe I should post all this to pastebin instead. Well, editing works too. Way too cheap way to keep this thread up.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/gaming/feature-mapping

hey, they actually renamed D3DFMT_A8R8G8B8 to DXGI_FORMAT_B8G8R8A8_UNORM, now it's slightly less confusing, great. I mean, order is more intuitive to understand.

Hmm, vs2017 changed the way their solutions organised. Now your MyProgram contains MyProgram.sln, MyProgram folder for all unimportant .sln related trash, Debug and Release folders for the compiled programs. So, source is in MyProgram/MyProgram/main.cpp, together with .vcxproj .vcxproj.filters .vcxproj.user files, object files are in MyProgram/MyProgram/Debug/main.obj, final result is in MyProgram/Debug/MyProgram.exe

Cmake based solutions just add -d postfix for debug builds, and install everything in one folder, linux style. VS2017 seems to force you to set dependencies manually for each project instead. If you use Cmake approach, better create separate build-debug and build-release folders. I'll start making sense eventually, I hope.

Round avatars are overused. I know it's a cool css trick, but just because it's new doesn't mean it's good, compression always worked with squares. You waste around 20% of space on nothing. Or, area of a circle, 1 - pi / 4 , 21,4%, wow i guessed quite close. All of that is unrelated, what matters is if it looks good, which isn't always really.

VS2017 moved all include and library paths to a separate "page" in project options. Can look at them in an instant. Before that they were in compiler and linker options, all other the place.

Need to try out unity already. Looks it has problems with loading times, and can't make level loading seamless probably. I want part of a level to be loading while player is about to approach it. I want my own minecraft, but with a lightly better graphics and more confusing terramorphing.

Linux compilation systems are fucking nuts. configure configure.ac config.h.in config.sub aclocal.m4 acinclude.m4

To me most build systems are incredibly convoluted and just fucking garbage.

Just write your own makefile. You don't need one in every directory like autotools does it, just one outside for the whole project.

Also as a side note, I hate VC++. I use GCC even on Windows with MinGW. Wink

I used mingw too, but i want to feel like a white person once in a while. I don't think mingw supports SEH well, and I want to try out edit and continue. In vs2010 edit and continue was disappointly slow, took 5-10 seconds to finish.

Want to relax, want to try SEH, those are quite opposite...

exit(1) exit(2) exit(0) actually are "throw" in a way. Shows you than just one catch per program is quite fine.

Hm, the reason I can't see well what's written on my monitor is because I, kind of, look through it as if it's a window. Once I break the illusion and see the border of the screen as well, I can focus my eyesight better. Should be oblivious, but, heh. Yeah, my eyesight is going to shit recently.

Really don't want to wear glasses. They probably help actually if you don't wear them long enough, they are good to show you how good your eyesight can actually be, since your eyesight drops down over yeas gradually instead of instantly. You know, boil the frog slowly, and it wouldn't jump out?

visual studio assembly

the problem I had with visual studio and building assembly, is that, there is a single project for all assembly code, and vs just kept rebuilding all assembly files on the slightest change. If I understand correctly, to specify dependencies between files properly I need something like make? For example, ninja? Right now, to specify dependencies in visual studio the project-solution way, I need to create a separate project for each assembly file? No, there should be build rules.

What are build rules? Visual studio uses build rules for everything.

Cmake gives me this line, upon trying to build libjpeg-turbo

-- NASM = NASM-NOTFOUND
-- Building i386 SIMD extensions

I have nasm.exe installed, it's in my C:/path, I just copypasted it.

It's quite easy and fast to delete the end of the file by just changing it's size. But I wish I could also delete some bits in the beginning or the middle of the file, to use fragmentation to speed up my algorithms.

Deleting the beginning could be useful, but not deleting the middle. HDD are fast only when they read data sequentially, this is why they do defragmentation from time to time. This artificial fragmentation can speed some operations up, but will hurt performance in the long run. You should just ignore the no longer useful data in the middle for some period of time, and do clean ups once per day or so.

I know some file system can do this, but I forgot the name. I read it in microsoft docs somewhere, good luck finding it twice.
