I have a halfdead notebook, I have a multimeter, and I have schematics I barely understand. What is safe and what isn't safe to do?

So far I just checked where the ground signal is, and that SMOS battery is indeed 3 volts. Afraid of doing anything else.

The notebook's monitor stopped working, and the videocard seems to be fried as well. I attached the external monitor, and disabled the videocard in the device manager, it sort of works. Even displays 3d graphics, but very slowly for complex scenes. I intend if not fixing it, then at least learning it somewhat while it still breaths.

What this means? The 100K_0402_5% and 0.1U_0402_16V4Z ?

100K - resistance value
0402 - the package size (1mm x 0.5mm, very small)
5% - the tolerance 100K +- 5%

0.1U - the capacitance value
16V4Z - voltage, tolerance and temperature profile
